9/29/25: How to Reset Your Business Before October
As September comes to a close, so does the third quarter of the year. Now is a great time to reflect the successes and struggles of the past month and make a plan for October and the rest of 2025. Let’s make this an actual reflection session – grab a pen, paper, cup of your favorite beverage, and sit for a few moments.
Let’s start with the good! Think about the month of September. What were three personal wins? Just so you see me doing this, too, mine were: Graduated ILT Academy, had a Saturday off where I enjoyed a day of crafting with friends and a date night with my husband, and enjoyed lunch with a friend I do not see nearly enough.
Now, what were three professional wins? I could easily use the ILT Academy graduation here as well. Other awesome things that happened for Balance & Business with Melissa: Strong Women Strong Connections Jamestown launched, hosted Coffee & Coaching with Melissa, and received two invites to speak at local women’s events.
Alright, now that you’ve jotted down three personal and three professional wins for the month, let’s move onto the part that isn’t quite as much fun, but necessary for growth – struggles. First, let’s acknowledge our personal struggles. I’ll go first. I pulled a muscle in my back early in the month and the pain has persisted-not out of control but definitely uncomfortable. I will spend the next three weekends on the road working. I love my job with the poker tour and the schedule is so good for our family life, but it’s always a bummer to tell my kids I can’t do stuff with them because I’ll be on the road. I had planned to return to the gym this month and still haven’t. I’m upset with myself for not making my wellness a priority.
Now the professional struggles – I’ll do mine if you do yours. The workshop I just launched was supposed to go out last month and I did receive a hard “no” from a local business for partnership. I will say, otherwise, I feel really good about the progress in my business this month. And the important thing is, just because I missed a deadline, I didn’t quit; I just moved the deadline. That ‘no’ just meant I pursued the next lead.
Reflecting on both wins and struggles is how you reset your business before October with clarity and focus. On that note, let’s plan for the future.
First, let’s think about October. What do you want to get done personally and professionally in October? Put it to paper, it’s 42% more likely to happen that way. Personally, October will be very cluttered for me, so enjoying time with my family when I am home will be my top priority. My business stuff I’m keeping quiet 🤫 because there are surprises coming! I can’t wait to see what is in store for each of you in October, and I’d love it if you’d like to share any of your wins, struggles, or goals in the comments.
